Grandmaster Remy Presas (The Professor) and Michael Davis
Modern Arnis as taught by The Professor, especially in later years, revolved around empty hand techniques (mano-mano), solo baston (single stick) and doble baston (double stick). But, in actuality, Arnis is much, much more than just that. And Remy was well trained in all aspects of the Filipino Martial Arts (FMA).
The cane or any bladed weapon is merely an extension of the hand. Even without the weapon, the hand remains an effective defense or combat weapon in Arnis play. The cane is only for practical purposes since it is basically less lethal in nature. In actual combat – a life-or-death struggle – the standard weapon is still the bolo or any bladed weapon.Grandmaster Remy Presas ~ Founder of Modern Arnis

I began to change my concept. I was doing fighting all the time, for real, not sport. My reputation was that all the time if they spar with me, there will be blood. Soon no one will practice with me. I have a bad reputation. So I thought to myself I should change my wayGrandmaster Remy Presas ~ Founder of Modern Arnis
TRANSITIONAL FLOW DRILL in FILIPINO MARTIAL ARTS | GM BRUCE CHIU | ARNIS INTERNATIONAL
Block Check Counter Empty Hand
Flow drills are very prevalent in Modern Arnis. They are designed to build muscle memory and perceptual speed. These drills are used to build skills. They are NOT combat, nor should they be considered to be (although they DO assist with combat should that situation ever arise. They are designed to help the student build skill and a foundation as well as make your movements second nature and instinctual. Many of these drills focus on gross motor movement as those are less affected by stress than fine motor control (due to body alarm reaction or BAR). At the root level, Modern Arnis is designed to teach you how to “flow” with the opponent’s attacks using the least amount of energy and using his strengths and weaknesses against him. Additionally, they will very much help to smooth out the “gaps” in your nervous system.
I am not sure if “inspired” is the best word to use, but that is what we are going to go with for now. The following gentlemen are either people that I have trained with or people

LATOSA ESCRIMA Vol-3 KNIFE FIGHTING by Rene Latosa
It was a big blow to find out that Grandmaster Latosa JUST recently passed away (September 2022). It seems that he had an ongoing health issue (kidneys I believe) that was not widely known about.
